Public Plan Facts

Another Closed Door Meeting

House and Senate leaders are meeting with President Obama today to try to “reconcile their differences” over the direction of health care legislation.

While the so-called “public option” may be dead, government-run health care is alive and well.

Congressional Democrats are working in secret behind closed doors to decide whether to create a massive new federal health care bureaucracy based in Washington. On the table is everything from subsidies to the so-called “Health Choices” super-bureaucracy and Czar-like leader that would have immense power of your health care.

But wait, didn’t the Senate kill government-run kill health care? Didn’t key senators say they would never vote for a bill that put the federal government in control of our health? That’s true. The Senate bill does not have a public plan or a new federal government health insurance exchange.

But the House legislation includes a new national health insurance exchange run from Washington. And as Democrats secretly craft the final bill, many in Washington believe it will include this new federal bureaucracy.

This decision comes at Americans more than ever are dissatisfied with the direction the health care reform debate has taken. Gallup reports that only 37% of Americans think that the President has done a good job handling health reform. While Gallup also found that the public is divided on the final legislation, it looks like Congress is leaning on Obama to bridge the gap between House and Senate plans.

Let’s hope that someone at today’s meeting tells it how it is — Americans don’t want a health care Czar, more government bureaucracy or reform that will only end of ruining the quality of American medicine.

  1. Mary Ann says:

This is the most disgraceful vote I have ever seen, we should vote them all out of office!!!

  2. dianadolce says:

I am really scared…………many of us who can afford healthcare now might be on the other end of things soon. Already Mayo Clinic in Arizona is pulling the plug on Medicare and Medicaid. Our health care is shrinking now and the bill is still not passed. If it even passes in any form, we will have so much less no matter what. I am afraid to go to the doctor!!

Yes, America keep rising up and putting the pressure on. Soon we will get rid of the people trying to take away our rights and freedoms. My suggestion, even if a Republican is not running in your state, contribute as little as $5 to other Republican campaigns like Scott Brown in Mass. Teamwork will help us all win!!!

    D.E. - You are SOOOOOOO RIGHT…………….thank you.

  3. Bill Janosik says:

The doctor-patient relationship is not something the government should be involved in! Government should not be involved in dictating and rationing health care! The proposals being made within this legislation are not in the best interests of either citizen or country. There is rationing, it will cover illegal aliens (criminals), it will cost far more than the administration or the CBO is admitting, I will lose my health care provided through my employer (something I am completely satisfied with), and there is no clause within the Constitution that gives authority to the Congress to force the citizen to purchase anything!

  4. Ronnie Hart says:

Congress and the White House need to just Stop! There is a way to reform Health care without taking our freedoms and privacy away. Tort reform, regulations on pre-existing and people signing up for medicaid. We can’t afford
this , expecially not now. They have totally lost touch with Americans. It is so sad that our government is so corrupt.

  5. Dominick says:

This healthcare bill is the first step toward tyranny…step #2 is cap & trade…#3
is card check. Wakeup folks and vote these idot’s out.

  6. Mary, RN says:

    Dear Congress,
I find it quite ridiculous that you are continuing to ignore the people you represent. We don’t want your healthcare bill. Almost 60% of us are against it yet you push on with your intention to shove it down our throats no matter what. I guess you think you know better than we do what to do with our hard-earned money. Your audacity is deplorable and your arrogance is immeasurable. We do not need another expensive Federal bureaucracy screwing things up, especially where our healthcare is concerned. Look no further than Medicaid, Medicare, the US Postal Service, the IRS and Social Security for examples of Federal ineptitude. Leave Healthcare alone and focus on what is really important right now; national security, without which nothing matters, and creating jobs. Can’t wait to see all of you that do not heed the words and wishes of your constituents out on the streets without jobs. America will not stand for much more of this.

  7. Gina says:

I don’t feel that they should be able to decide for people on their health insurance. Canada is in a mess and people are drying waiting to get care!! Who do they think they are to go behind closed doors and make decisions for people without our knowledge of what they are doing! What has happen to our consitutional rights?? They will not be on the same health care system we are on because they have exempted themselves from the health care program they want to jam down our throats. Whatever they are trying to do to the common everyday people should also apply to them and see how fast they would change their tune on what is getting rammed through!! All they care about is how ggod they want to look and that is the only thing that matters to the democrats. I am embarrassed to say that I am a democrat anymore they do not care about the small business owners or the middle class people they are crushing with their agenda. They have money so it is not a issue for them, they are not losing their homes or businesses. So what do they try to do take away are right to decide our own choice of health care!! Are forefathers are rolling in their graves right now. Pray for us all and hope that God will keep the ones who try to do the right by him with some voice for us in Washington!

  8. Kathy Casey says:

There is no part of this bill that is acceptable. The premise that our government has the authority to force us to purchase insurance is fundamentally flawed and unconstitutional. I have, and will continue to tell my state government to use the 10th amendment of the constitution to nullify any bill passed by this corrupt administration. I will not comply with what I see as an illegal order. There has been not a single politician who can explain why, if this is such a great bill, that certain DEMOCRATS must be given special exemptions for their state before they will vote for it.

Is it not amazing that there is not even one Democrat who will stand up for what is right? Not one in the house of representatives, not one in the senate. That is an indication of the ruthlessness of Reid, Polosi, Obama, etal. Every democratic representative and senator is afraid.

They are counting on we the people being afraid too. I hope we can show them that we are not.

  9. SB says:

If you all really mean what you are saying on this blog ? will you have the nerve to vote them all out in the next elections ? this is what it will take to get them to listen to us the people who put them in office !

  10. Daisy says:

I would ask congress to STOP this insane bill! We need reform in our Economy. That should be #1 on there list.

  11. David says:

We shall have a closed door meeting on Tuesday November 2nd. They will not listen to us now, but they will come that day.

  12. Sam says:

Democratic Fascism on an apocalyptic parade in Washington! Let this be a warning for the need of a grand scale reform of the heart and soul of our culture. It is no longer Western Culture; we live in a culture of hedonism and decadence.

We who are moral and clear thinking need to send a clear message to these scoundrels that they are out. They’re done. But, more is needed. We need to stem the tide of hedonism by parents all over this land getting back to traditional values and teaching their children the same. They need to stop being afraid of their kids and seek to be their “pals” and be PARENTS, for crying out loud!

Every citizen must be involved. We’ve been holding out for “hope”, more of a “lazy rescue” from ourselves, that our politicians will do the work that we are unwilling to do. We think that more laws are going to bring the reform of our life that only WE can do. Our politicians, in general, are corrupt; they work to solidify there own power and use our money to do it; and they have lost their first love toward the Constitution of the United States. They are treacherous; they are treasonous; and they need to be run out of Washington on a rail.

  13. Wildcat from Dallastown, PA says:

My response to everyone involved with this so-called health care reform is to cease and desist!

The voluminous piece of excrement all of you have been crafting in the dark has very little to do with actual health care reform in the first place. It was already multiple versions of creating and implementing methods and bureaucracies to eliminate the personal liberties of American citizens and control virtually every aspect of their lives. All that including an unconstitutional mandate requiring specific health insurance! And, that was before all the back room deals where Dingy Harry or Princess Pelosi or other undisclosed “Pirates of the Potomac” (None of whom have the authority) yet the Pirates think they do as they gave not only our tax money but that of future generations to come to purchase votes in a “quid pro quo” arrangement. Simply another demonstration of corrupted politicians serving corruptly!

The approach was as corrupt as are the special facets encompassing their entire concept of health care reform. These Progressive Pirates had to do all the illicit back room deals to get votes because their concept and the actual hard copy document cannot stand up to the bright light of day in and of itself. Hence the poll numbers that were weakly positive before are now demonstrative of the citizens’ absolutely strong disapproval.

Kill the bill before WE THE PEOPLE get stuck paying for something we do not want for four years before any limited benefits even attempt to appear!

Those officials holding elected offices won’t have to be concerned about their influence over any process demolishing the liberties of the American people and dissolving this great nation any more. There are such things as impeachment and should that fail, voting them out of office at the next opportune time. However, in may assessment of the current public sediment relative to the performance of these individuals based upon their reaction to seeing them in a news cast or hearing their voice on the radio (or TV) is so repulsed that some may have a tendency to go with the solution our founding fathers’ did when their peaceful messages fell on the deaf ears of apathetic bureaucrats in England. Perhaps the second American Revolution isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

  14. John Whittaker says:

I am against the awful negotiations behind closed doors to impose a health care plan we cannot afford as a nation and a plan which puts senior citizens at extreme peril and hurts young people of this nation.

This whole health care plan as contrived should be scrapped and efforts made to start over completely.

The current plan is a travesty on The American People.

  15. Jack Weaver says:

Congress is so out of touch and not listening to the citizens of this country. I have been a part of the silent majority too long which is my fault. But it would be an even bigger fault if I remained silent. I do not know what I can do, but I am going to be an active voter that helps send Congressmen home. We have got to get our government back under control as set forth by our Constitution which has been trampled on and headed to the trash heap.

  16. JimPeoria says:

Stay the hell out of our health industry. The biggest problem is there are already to many people between my doctor and me. We need to remove all of those roadblocks and get back to single payer health care between the doctor and me. If I want or need insurance I am free to buy it but they need to pay me not the doctor. We need to have a standard claim form from all the insurance companies. One that is simple and that any 5th grader can fill out. We need to be able to buy only the coverage we want and not be forced to take packaged plans to get some part we need. We need to be able to shot nation wide for coverage and not be limited to just those companies that are certified within our state. In other words there needs to be a federal certification that trumps all states certification, and all insurance companies need to comply with it or quit selling coverage. We would like to see a major crack down on insurance companies practices and policies and how they sell coverage. Nobody should be forced to buy insurance but everyone should be responsible for taking care of their health care bills. We shouldn’t have to rely on medicare or medicaid or insurance to pay the bill, we should be responsible for those bills. This would maybe stop some of the huge raise in costs we have seen in the past couple of years.

  17. Robert Squires says:

What don’t you get Pelosi, Reid, and Obma? The American people do not what this kind of health care reform. You obviously don’t give a damn about the American people. You are just going to ram it down our throats. You lied about transparency and a lot of other things . You will all pay the price next fall.

  18. Geppetto says:

I have, on a number of occasions, Emailed and Fax’d my senators and congressman and demanded they stop all legislative activity until November 2010.
I harbor no illusions that this will happen but the intent is to inform them of how contemptible I view the actions of this congress and to give them a Cineramic view of their future should they continue these efforts to “reform” this beloved country and turn it into a “socialist workers paradise.”
If you’re religious, pray; if not, hope for a miracle.

  19. Glenn Hamp says:

I pledge that I will not purchase government mandated insurance. If this unconstitutional piece of corrupt legislation is rammed down our throats they can throw me in Jail if they want, but the jails will quickly overflow if we all commit to stand up for our rights. Pledge to follow the constitution and not buy government insurance!

  20. SB says:

Let’s hope the republican in Mass. wins I thhink his name is Brpwn then watch how corrupt the democrats will be. I’am an independent.. If Coakely wins, the state of Mass. should be re-named to Kennedy. this whole mess was caused by both parties and neither knows how to fix it .

  21. Listen to the people !

  22. Vince Dees says:

not only should this healthcare reform bill be tossed out en toto…but the architects of this heinous atrocity should be arrested and tried as political criminals to the Ameican Way of life….CALL IT WHAT YOU WILL….I CALL IT TREASON….

  23. Frank La May says:

we have told congress and the president over and over we do not want this health insurance they are trying to cram down our through. tell them we will vote them out of office if they pass this bill. it’s a bad bill and we the american people have said over and over do not pass. are they deaf, dumb and blind? i guess

    frank la may

  24. Dee says:

Dems, START OVER … and include the ‘ideas’ set forth by Republicans!! As I watched the Senate Finance Committee, it appeared to me that the Democrats were the Party of ‘NO’ .. Not one common sense ammendment was allowed, and Senator Baucus let it well be known that it’s their TURN…

If the ‘Progressives’ are intent on making ‘History’ with this outrageous bill, that NO BODY wants, they will be committing “Political Suicide’ … I personally will be ’supporting’ their oponents in the upcoming 2010 & 2012 elections!! This Administration is clearly on ’self-destruct’ mode …

One would think that since the House, Senate & Exec. Branch is now the ‘Majority’ … Why in the world are they so eager to ’shoot themselves in the foot’, and NOT listen to their CONSTITUANTS? Surely that would keep them in power, right? Apparently, their ‘Agenda’ is to destroy America and corrupt the political system before the ‘Mid-Term Elections’ … Watch and see … They will put forth many bills, that the constituants don’t want, and pass it anyway!! PROGRESSIVES don’t think about the ‘consequences’ of their actions, merely what they want NOW!!!

WE need atleast ONE brave, courageous Democrat to STEP UP and do the ‘right thing’ for America … Not because of the ‘Chicago Thugs’ in Washington are ‘threatening’ them … seems like with their ‘Life’ …. What’s the worst that Pelosi & Reid will do? Threaten them with their ‘Chairmanships’. like Lieberman was? SO WHAT …… It’s time the Dems get a ‘backbone’ against these thugs and do what’s best for America … quit being ‘Lapdogs’ for these worthless ‘thugs’ who call themselves ‘Politicians’… NO MORE back room deals, favoritism & shoving this healthcare bill down our throats….

The CITIZENS of America WILL rise up and REVOLT fiercely .. We will not allow the Government to ‘Control’ us, like sheep!!

Join your ‘Tea Party’ movement, and let Washington HEAR you .. If not now, tjey will hear us at the polls ….

  25. CPR from Texas says:

Clearly communists in Congress and in the White House are seeking central control of everything. All who love freedom must oppose and defeat this brazen power grab, or we will lose everything that generations have fought and still are fighting so bravely to protect.

  26. Dave Line says:

I have said it all before but where is the cost “reform” in this bill? Sure it will cover more people and eliminate insurance companies ability to deny coverage. All of those costs will come back in higher premiums and some kind of unfair taxation. Do they really think cutting the fees paid on some Medicare services will save the average American anything? They don’t think provider swill increase fees elsewhere or find new ways to do more so the providers of healthcare make the same? Expanding the state Medicaid programs is just shifting federally mandated expenditures to States already drowning in red ink which will force State tax increases or cuts in education and road repair which is counter productive if we want a better work force and better infrastructure. Do these democratic legislators think the only reason people aren’t covered today is because we are all mean spirited? is it totally unreasonable to question why we have so many people in need of this welfare expansion? Could we not do something to encourage some of these individuals become educated in a useful and employable trade? Because we have such generous welfare programs and so many people generating “tax free cash Incomes” we no longer have as many people motivated to stay in school and work to get ahead. This reform will ultimately be another blow to the middle class and also transfer more jobs underground to the tax free cash basis economy that once was only utilized for criminal activities. Who really believes this legislation will solve any aspect of our nations healthcare problems? Dissappointing that we Republicans have been more vocal in alternatives. Defeating this is one thing but taking up good initiatives to help control costs is another. Where are the healthcare professionals and physician leaders who might truly have some worthwhile ideas? What is their consensus on how to reform healthcare to make it both more effective and efficient? Is there any sane person who isn’t totally exasperated by the political bluster and lack of factual information behind this initiative?

  27. Hugh says:

For the Democrat Party hierarchy, it would appear that passing a health care bill, like believing in global warming, has become a religion. The will of the majority be damned. We want health care, even the atrocious piece of legislation that it looks to become and you (the electorate) will just have to accept it, like it or not. Besides, we, your elected representatives, know what is best for you, you the great unwashed. The key words are “electorate” and “elected”. Come November, 2010, there will be the reckoning

  28. Dave K says:

I call and write my senators often. I am very angry that congress pays no attention to what we want.

  29. TIMOTHEUS says:

Any health reform that is passed will destroy about another 20% of each states jobs that are left after the govt bungling that allowed this financial crisis to occur.Hawaii’s health care enactment did exactly that–and then increased the welfare rolls and drove up regular insurance rates-but it also severely restricted employers abilities to find the right capable people for their companies.Currently govt mandates take up and destroy 33% of all US companies resources and time–with any health care enactments that will rise to 48%—no US company or business will be effective/profitable carrying the weight of that–oh- except for the “friends of the Fed” who don’t have to follow any of the rules the rest of us do–and get complete exemptions from those pesky ‘laws’ that we have to follow.Congress is only doing things right now to pay back the 986 million dollars they directly received from the health and insurance companies in 2008 alone–paying their personal bribes at the expense and demise of the American people.

  30. Wayne Thompson says:

Is there a way for citizens to bring a referendum of dissatisfaction outside of the voting for representatives to order a cease and desist?
If so that would be an important step to rally change in the direction assailing our civil liberties. Where is the ACLU in all this!!??

  31. Gina says:

I think you Democrats lie, cheat and steal from the American people more than anyone I have ever seen. This Healthcare bill is absolutely rediculious. I think you should be forced into the very same healthcare as the rest of the people and what about the taxes you cheats not pay. I am so fed up with our governmnent. We need all new congress men and women. I pray that every single Democrat loses in this next election and whatever you put in place get reversed.

  32. Gina says:

It really gripes me that most American people work the butts off to earn a living and the Democrats want to go give it to any and all people who have not even worked or paid into the system. Who do they think we are? These lazy bums need to get off their lazy butts and get a job and pay for their own way in life. I was always taught that a person gets ahead in life by working for what they want. This is not true anymore so WHY WORK? GET RID OF THE DEMOCRATS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. Irma Bickerstaff says:

Your going to use your transparent Closed Door Meetings to do a ram down on a bill that the majority of American voters oppose. We hate your agenda. We work, pay taxes, and you screw us for your “entitlements”. If this program was so great, you wouldn’t exempt yourselves from the bill you have for the rest of us. Beware the upcoming election, we will vote you out. We don’t need more Ceasars in DC.

  34. Sara says:

The Democrats are on course for a train wreck if they think passing this Health Care bill against the wishes of the MAJORITY of the American people is a smart move. The bill is a disaster and look out for the voters! Let’s vote all congress out and start fresh with people who will abide by our constitution and laws!!!!!

  35. Kadrake says:

    NOT another Czar! Absolutely NOT.

  36. chirock says:

This whole thing is an outrageous and unnecessary FRAUD, unless you want to use it to bypass The Constitution (along with phony “global warming”) to force us into world government run by UN Gauliters. Not only will the totally screw up our health care, it will put us one step closer to world governments by elites who want 90% of humanity eradicated from the planet. Even the Obumba Science Gauliter says so in a text book he has written. I do not rationally believe in reptilian shape shifters, but when one gets a look at the scum that now has its hands on the Federal “Government”, especially the Science Gauliter (who looks REALLY WEIRD to me), it does give one a moment’s pause.

  37. Melissa says:

What can I say that anyone in bed with Obama will listen to? We were promised a transparent administration. Oh, it’s transparent all right. We see right through “Obama and friends” corrupt, mob-driven hypocrisy. Like others have said before me, beware the November elections. People are waking up to the dems ruthlessness; with God’s help, we will hand you your hats.

  38. Mary Snider says:

Leave our Health Care ALONE!! LISTEN TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE - WE DON’T WANT YOU MAKING DECISIONS FOR US.

  39. Sue Grant says:

When this healthcare is signed by our first, black, politically enept, incompetent, president watch as the lawsuits start. The democraps are destroying OUR CONSTITUTION and the lawsuits will bear that out. The sad issue in all of this is Mr. Obama has now made sure that the voters in the United States of America will NEVER again vote for a black man or woman to ever serve as president. He is good at making flowery speeches but his rhetorical audacity breeds cynicism, because utopianism always somes up short in the end. The dems don’t seem to understand that they work For The People but their eyes and ears will be opened once the revolution starts and they are all summarily ‘relieved of duty’ by NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO OUR wants and needs, just their own selfish wants and need for POWER.

  40. Virginia says:

If only we could get rid of ALL of them. I cannot understand why they are doing this to the American people - Control, I guess!

  41. Janis Marie says:

Reid et al should be arrested with their bribery and buying of votes. From where is this bribery money coming from Reid??

  42. Henry Goudreau says:

When are our so-called respective legislators and President going to stop doing what they want and start doing what the people want? Has Washington forgotten who they work for? I, for one, do not want the Health Bill or Cap and Trade Bill. STOP this insanity!!! Vote the Dems out in 2010 & 2012 and vote Obama out in 2012!!!

  43. luther stephens says:

We have gone absolutely crazy with the czar thing and have no idea about how we will pay for ALL the costs of all the gov. programs being instituted. This thing is like a freight train out of control.

  44. Congress,
WE WILL NOT OBEY AND WE WILL NOT PAY! Stop shredding our Constitution you have absolutely no right to mandate that we buy healthcare or any other service. You stole our money gave it to the banks and car companies, you protect your corrupt organizations(Acorn) and give them our money, you fly all around the world, vote yourself raises etc. all on our dime. You try war criminals in civilian court and demonize your own people(Americans). IF ANY OF YOU LOVED YOUR FAMILY AND THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE (BECAUSE THEY WILL LIVE UNDER TYRANNY ALONG WITH US) YOU COULD NOT POSSIBLY VOTE YES TO THIS SOCIALIST AGENDA THAT IS BEING PUSHED BY THE PROGRESSIVES AND THE ADMINISTRATION.

  45. Birt says:

We have been working to defeat this bill for many months and we are tired. But, we are not going to give up! Please everyone, get involved, stay involved and get your friends and family involved.

Senator DeMint and Senator lMcConnell have place an objection to the conferees’. This means that the exact bill has to pass both houses before it can be signed into law. If either house proposes a motion to appoint conferees, that motion is subject to filibuster and it would likely require three separate cloture votes just to pass the motion. So don’t give up, keep calling and writing.

This HC bill will not do any of the things that the Dems claim it will do. It is about taking us over and controlling us. You control HC, you control the people. Who knows, maybe a registered Republican will go to the end of the waiting line.

  46. Thomas says:

    Hello DC,
Why should we be surprised they won’t read the bill when it is clear few if any of them have read the Constitution. I keep one in my pocket and can’t find anything that gives them the power to do what they are doing. Stop the Healthcare Train…!

  47. Patte Bahl says:

Where does the constitution provide congress with the power to decide that healthcare is a right? Rights only come from GOD. Congress is not trying to lower the cost of healthcare but trying to get their hands on our money to prop up other failing entitlements and give new earmarks to their supporters. These are very dangerous times as we move from being a free open society to one where big governemnt is taking away more freedom with every piece of legislation passed. Wake up America before we’re all sitting around reminiscing about the good ‘ole days!

  48. Michael Lilly says:

I am against any and all czars. Let’s face it, Russia thinks we’re a meek tiger. We’ve got all these czars and yet, Russia forcibly removed theirs some time ago. We obviously don’t learn from history.

Heck, some lines in history were written in blood. Why is it so hard to learn from the written words?

Leave my healthcare alone! It’s been working just fine for me as it is.

  49. J S says:

Term Limits on all elected government officals now!!

Fire the Attorney General and the head of Homeland Security.

Vote all Dems. out of the house and senate. We’re voting all you bums out, here that Nancy and Harry!

No, no, no to the Healthcare bill. It is a disaster.

No more bloted budget deficits!. No more bailouts! Stop spending money we don’t have!

No new taxes! No to Obama insanity!

  50. Rubyboots says:

KILL THE BILL!!!!!!!!!!! IT WOULD BE OH SO WONDERFUL IF A REPUBLICAN FROM MASSACHUETTES WAS THE ONE TO “KILL THE BILL” HIS STATEMENT THAT ” ITS NOT KENNEDY SEAT, NOR THE DEMOCRAT’S SEAT BUT THE PEOPLE’S SEAT” WILL GO DOWN IN INFAMY.
